It has been a while since my last update so I wanted to check in with all of you. I had my second round of chemo this morning and all went well. It was all very easy and I had the chance to meet a very nice woman, Vanessa, who is 48 years old and has IBC (Inflammatory Breast Cancer) one of the not so good kinds. She is doing her treatment a bit differently from mine due to the nature of her cancer. See good things do come from chemo, I made a new "friend!" So far I have been feeling good, just tired. I had a bought of colitis (bacterial infection in my intestines) after my first treatment, but apparently that was a fluke and I should be fine this round. My doctor gave me an antibiotic to start on Monday just in case it decides to rear its ugly head again! My dear friend from way back when, Christine, left her two little boys at home (don't worry they are well taken care of unless they have tied the babysitter up) to come and help us this weekend. I also have two of my girls from church helping this afternoon and tomorrow for a couple of hours. I have been so amazed at how my friends and family have all made such huge personal sacrifices to come to our aid during all of this. I hope that none of you have to endure this, but please know I am more than happy to return the favors!! So, I have discovered that there are many undisclosed benefits to chemo/cancer:
1. Losing your body hair is not a BAD thing at all: no hair = no shaving!!
2. Losing your head hair is not so bad either. It provides several options not previously discovered: wig, scarf and a la natural bald.
3. Friends bring you the most wonderful meals.
4. Friends offer to take the kids for a couple of hours for me to relax.
5. Friends come from all over to help and it is great getting to see them and chat.
6. I have received more phone calls, cards, gifts, love, prayers and support than I could ever have dreamed of.
7. I have learned that everyone and everything in life is precious and to try to get the most out of every day.
8. I have learned that with the incredible support of my friends and family, I can conquer anything.
9. My family and my in-laws are the most incredible people on Earth.
10. My boobs are looking fabulous!
Love you all and thank you as always for the love, support, prayers and blessings.
